How do you change the bed temperature in Bambu Studio?
Bed temperature lives in the filament preset, not the printer or process. Pick the plate type under the printer. Click the menu icon beside the filament and choose Edit. On the Filament tab, change Initial layer and Other layers in that plate’s row, then save a user preset. Bambu’s PLA Basic profile uses 55 °C on Textured PEI.
The number
Bambu Studio’s Bambu PLA Basic profile, by printer and plate. Initial layer and Other layers carry the same value in every row.
| Plate row in Filament settings | X1 Carbon, P1S | A1 mini | A1 | H2D, P2S |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bambu Cool Plate SuperTack | 45 °C | 45 °C | 45 °C | 40 °C |
| Cool Plate | 35 °C | 35 °C | 35 °C | 35 °C |
| Engineering Plate | 0 (not supported) | 0 (not supported) | 0 (not supported) | 55 °C |
| Smooth PEI Plate / High Temp Plate | 55 °C | 60 °C | 65 °C | 55 °C |
| Textured PEI Plate | 55 °C | 65 °C | 65 °C | 55 °C |
The values come from Bambu Lab’s profile files on GitHub. The X1 Carbon and P1S use the PLA base values unchanged, while the A1 mini, A1, H2D and P2S files override some rows. Bambu Studio’s own tooltip says a 0 “means the filament does not support to print on” that plate. PEI is polyetherimide and PLA is polylactic acid. Other materials are on the bed temperature chart.
Where is bed temperature in Bambu Studio?
In Filament settings, under the “Print temperature” group of the Filament tab. Bambu Lab’s slicing guide puts “hotbed temperature” among the filament settings. The printer and process presets don’t carry it.
- In the Prepare sidebar, open the plate drop-down under the printer and pick the plate that’s on the printer: Cool Plate, Engineering Plate, Smooth PEI Plate / High Temp Plate, Textured PEI Plate or Bambu Cool Plate SuperTack.
- Click the menu icon next to the filament (“Click to edit preset”) and choose Edit.
- Find that plate’s row. Type the first-layer value in Initial layer and the rest in Other layers. Bambu Studio accepts 0 to 120 °C.
- Click the Save icon, name the preset and save it as a User Preset. A Project Preset lives only in that .3mf file.
To give one plate of a project a different build surface, click its “Customize current plate” icon and set Bed type in Plate Settings. The default is “Same as Global Plate Type”. In a multicolor print, Bambu Studio takes the bed temperature from the first filament by default.
How do you change bed temperature in OrcaSlicer or Creality Print?
Both use Bambu Studio’s layout: Filament settings, Filament tab, a Bed temperature group with Initial layer and Other layers per plate.
| Slicer | Where | Plate rows |
|---|---|---|
| Bambu Studio | Filament settings > Filament > Print temperature | SuperTack, Cool, Engineering, Smooth PEI / High Temp, Textured PEI |
| OrcaSlicer | Filament settings > Filament > Bed temperature | Cool Plate (SuperTack), Cool Plate, Textured Cool Plate, Engineering Plate, Smooth PEI Plate / High Temp Plate, Textured PEI Plate |
| Creality Print 7 | Filament settings > Filament > Bed temperature | Cool Plate, Engineering plate, Smooth PEI Plate / High Temp Plate, Textured PEI Plate, Customized Plate, Epoxy Resin Plate |
| PrusaSlicer 2.9 | Filament Settings > Filament > Temperature > Bed | One row: First layer and Other layers |
In OrcaSlicer, a printer from another maker shows only the row for its current plate type. To see all six, tick Support multi bed types in Printer settings. PrusaSlicer’s Generic and Prusament PLA profiles set 60 °C for both layers. In PrusaSlicer, a 0 drops bed temperature commands from the G-code entirely.
What is the G-code to set bed temperature?
M140 S60 sets the bed to 60 °C and carries on. M190 S60 sets it and waits.
| Command | Firmware | What it does |
|---|---|---|
M140 S80 |
Marlin, Klipper | Sets the target and continues without waiting |
M190 S80 |
Marlin | Sets the target and waits, but only when heating |
M190 R40 |
Marlin | Waits whether the bed is heating or cooling |
M190 S80 |
Klipper | Always waits for the bed to settle at the target |
SET_HEATER_TEMPERATURE HEATER=heater_bed TARGET=80 |
Klipper | Sets the target; leaving out TARGET sets it to 0 |
Slicers write these into the start G-code with placeholders, so the number tracks your filament preset. PrusaSlicer’s printer profiles use M190 S[first_layer_bed_temperature]. Change the preset value, not the start G-code.
How do you change bed temperature during a print?
From the printer screen or the app. The change applies to that print only; the preset keeps its value.
- Bambu Lab X1 and H2: Controls, then Heatbed, and enter a value.
- Bambu Lab A1: Control, then Heatbed Temperature.
- Bambu Lab P1: the on-screen arrow buttons for Heatbed Temperature.
- Bambu Handy app: Device Control, then Heatbed.
- Bambu Studio: the Device tab, with the printer bound to your account.
- Marlin printers: Tune, then Bed on the LCD (liquid crystal display) menu.
- Klipper printers: send
M140 S65from the console or the OctoPrint terminal.
Change it after the first layer. When Other layers differs from Initial layer, Bambu Studio writes a new M140 at the start of layer 2, which replaces a value you set during layer 1.
Why
The same material prints at different bed temperatures on different plates. Bambu Lab’s adhesion guide gives that as the reason plate selection matters. So Bambu Studio stores one temperature per plate in each filament preset and uses the row for the plate you select. Choose the wrong plate and the bed may run too cold for adhesion. On a Textured PEI Plate, a wrong selection also leaves the nozzle too high for the first layer.
- Plate on the bed
- Other plates, each with its own row
- Heated bed
How to check it on your own print
- Match the plate first. The drop-down under the printer must name the plate on the printer, or Bambu Studio uses another row.
- Read the sliced file. Export the G-code, open it in a text editor and search for
M140andM190. The S value is what the bed will get. - Watch the screen at the start. The heatbed reading should climb to your Initial layer value. Look again after layer 1 for the Other layers value.
- If the number keeps reverting, you changed it on the printer or in an unsaved preset. Save a User Preset and slice again.
- If slicing stops with “Plate 1: Engineering Plate does not support filament 1”, that plate’s row is 0 in the profile. Enter a value, such as the 55 °C the H2D and P2S profiles use for PLA. Starting values per material are on the PLA bed temperature page and the first layer bed temperature page.
